For the last few years, Mom has enjoyed a special relationship with Dr. John Mason, her Ophthalmologist at the Retina Consultants of Alabama. In fact, when Mom was sewing masks this past spring, his office received her first batch. The nurses told us they wore Mom’s homeade masks until their medical grade masks arrived. Dr. Mason has taken such good care of Mom’s eyes and she adores him for many reasons but especially for his efforts to save her eyesight. One of many concerns in this journey has been the fact that Mom has missed two shots. These shots are her treatment to hold Macular Degeneration at bay. Maggie reached out to Dr. Mason this week and without hesitation, he offered to visit Mom in the ICU and give her the shots she has missed. This happened yesterday. We are grateful to Dr. Mason and his team!
Mom experienced an acute drop in her Oxygen today, preventing her medical team from weaning her from sedation. They increased her Oxygen from 50% to 60% and once they stabilized her, she has remained stable the remainder of the day. They will try to decrease the Oxygen again tonight and see how she responds. Please pray with us that tomorrow she will be stable enough to reduce sedation and that her body will tolerate it.
This morning, when I woke, the song, “Lord, I Need You” by Matt Maher was running through my head. His lyrics are our cry for the next few hours and days as Mom must pull out of being heavily sedated to take the next step.
Lord I come, I confess Bowing here, I find my rest Without You, I fall apart You’re the one that guides my heart Lord, I need You, oh I need You Every hour, I need You Oh, God how I need You
